Updated for your Reading 08/1/09 By Michelle Kilcullen, President PtHA of IL. Show season is moving right along. We had a great turn out at our Youth sponsored open show, and now we’re getting ready to end our PtHA of IL show season with our six-judge show in Sterling. Remember, if you pre-enter you only have to pay to show under five judges.
We’re all very proud of our Queen, Paige Heinke, for her first rate representation of our charter at the World show. Paige won Miss Equitation, ended up 10th overall out of near 70 in showmanship, and won the rubber animal toss. On top of those placings, she showed the rest of the country just what kind of fierce competition and friendly faces they can expect at our Illinois Pinto shows. We’re very proud of you Paige; and thank you for all the time and money you put into running as Queen. Please continue to check out our websites for information on our Mary Kay and Tupperware fundraisers for our Royalty. Though Worlds is over, Paige and her family paid quite a bit out of their pocket that we’d love to reimburse them and we also need to ensure sufficient funds for future Royalty. Again…YEAH PAIGE!!
We had to reschedule our July 11th meeting and trail ride at the Pompei Ranch in Bristol, WI due to scheduling conflicts. Please watch for the rescheduled date on our websites and in the newsletter. The rescheduled event will be a (hopefully) big trail ride to show Mr. Pompei how much we appreciate him letting us come ride at his ranch. Bring your friends!
Please check out the website for a proposed change to our bylaws changing our minimum required meetings from six annually to two. We will vote on this change at our November meeting.
Please remember to get your nominations for soon to be vacant offices in to Jocelyn English. Up for election at our November meeting will be President, Treasurer, and two board positions. Our club stays strong thanks to the tireless efforts of our VOLUNTEER Officers and Board Members. Please remember that in order to keep the charter strong and progressive we need new volunteers stepping up to donate their time and skills to benefit the club. Please consider running for office. A list of open positions and those nominated for them can be viewed on our website.
Lastly, thank you to Jennifer Driessens for working with the Holiday Inn Rock Falls and getting our judges’ rooms for the August show donated! Please return the favor and book your August hotel room at the Holiday Inn Rock Falls by calling 815-626-5500. The Open Fun Show was a huge success. The weather was beautiful Saturday. On Sunday the weather turned a bit cold, but the show was finished at about noon so everyone was able to beat the wind and snow. Thank you all for coming. We had riders from Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan and Ohio. The classes were full and the halter classes were huge. There were some beautiful Pintos and riders already getting a jump start on points for the year. Remember there are zone awards for trailers this year!! The potluck was once again a huge success with lots of food and visiting with members and new friends. "Steve and I just wanted to say thanks for all the warm welcomes we got at the show. Please encourage the fellow youth in the area to email or call Amanda with any ideas they may have. Thanks! Her first trip to represent the youth will be the Convention held in March down in Oklahoma City. Although the Walworth County Fair at Elkhorn over Labor Day weekend was not a Pinto Show it was a fun show to see lots of old and new friends ride their Pintos. The Cunninghams were there riding their Pinto Aspen and their sorrel Buddy. Kelsey Anderson and Rolex looked beautiful together-wow what a team! Lauren and Kristine Zengeler were there with Fergi and Mickey. Kristine won High Point on Friday. Lauren won High Point on Monday. Kaitlynn was there doing gaming-way to go Kaitlynn! Shayna was there on Rawhide and did several classes. Did you know Shayna was the youngest to win a World Championship in Tulsa. Bianca rode her tall new Pinto-what a beautiful Pinto. Jenna and Elsa rode their Pinto. They both were all smiles, as usual, all day. Sam won High Point on Sunday. Sam and her new horse are an awesome team. There were lots of horses for sale, lots of gaming and on Monday a Drill Team competition. And, if you stayed for the entertainment you got to see Billy Rae Cyrus. (No Hanna was not there!!) Thank you R.A. Adams for hosting our July meeting. We had a really good attendance by adults and youth. Everyone got to see the horse trailers and living quarters that Mary Beth and R.A. Adams sells. Their facility was huge and they have everything you could possibly need for trailering and hauling. The food and special horse chocolate treats were awesome. Amanda our Youth Secretary wrote: At the meeting, we discussed the following:
Congratulations to Lauren & Kristine Zengeler!! Both girls did AWESOME in Minnesota this past weekend. Yes, Lauren totally rocked in walk-trot on Mickey (5 firsts and 1 second in walk trot Horsemanship) and we think that Fergus knew that he had to be good (seeing as he's named after the town "Fergus Falls") because he was the best we have ever seen him. Lauren earned 71 points in 4 events and Kristine earned 181 total points in 14 events. Sam Shiro also had her first ever show with her new Pinto, Jess. They did so great together for their first show. I am not sure of her total points though but know that she got quite a few placings!

Where is the Youth "We Support Our Troops" Banner now? Right now it is at the Barrington Feed Store located on Northwest Highway in Lake Barrington. Need any feed for your horse or animals check them out. A message from the Youth President, Beth. It was great to see everyone at the show and i hope it was successful for all of you. I want to start out saying that there was a huge turnout for the youth classes, which was totally great. I know I got to talk to many other youth from out of state and it was nice to see some new faces at the show. At the show we decided against having a meeting because of everything that needed to get done in preparing for the show day ahead. Still, I know that all of the youth got to talk over the potluck dinner that we had, or while we rode our horses. Overall, I think that the show went smooth and that The Illinois Pinto Youth represented themselves well. Looking towards the future we only have about a month until the world show. I know that there are a few youth going from Illinois. So i would like to wish all of the youth that are going good luck along with all of the other members that are participating. As for all of the youth I have been hoping to do one teambuilding activity this year so with summer coming up we should all come up with some ideas that would be fun for everyone. I hope that everyone is having fun so far this show season and I cant wait to see you in the future!

By Katie Zimmer. What do you do when your horse is injured – and you are experiencing show withdraw? Volunteer to help ringmaster! It is a truly eye opening experience. Have you ever wondered what goes through the judges mind as you are entering a class ,or you miss your lead, or maybe get the wrong diagonal? Participating as a ring master will help you understand the judging process better. Well recently I got to help ringmaster the Illinois pinto show at the Belvidere fairgrounds. This was quite an experience for me because I got to interact with the judges as they were judging the classes. Seeing what the judges see from the ground is really exciting and hearing their comments provided me with valuable insight into how I can become a better rider. I found out how different judges definitely have different styles and that they really put a lot of thought and experience into the judging process. I also realized just how hard the judges work. Standing out in the middle of the arena – paying close attention to class after class is the toughest job at the show. I don’t know how they do it every weekend – it is truly a love of the sport. Let me tell you something else, the judges really want you do well, they share your disappointment when you have a good ride going and something goes wrong. They want to see all of us succeed. We can’t speak to the judges during the normal course of the show season, and I think we all miss out on knowing these people because they are such a big part of what we all work so hard to achieve. So from all of us – thanks to all the judges who make our pinto shows so special – I have a new appreciation for everything you do!
Being a Ring Steward for the first half of the June 3rd show by Bianca Lencioni. " Being ring steward was a lot of fun. I was there with 4 different judges and they were all easy to talk to.
I would also like to congratulate everyone that showed June 3rd because every one did extremely well.
